  1. Not A Database

  3. Notebook applications are NOT intended to be used as some form of editable database. The primary use of a Notebook is to distribute more-or-less static text information. Thus, you need to consider how your Notebook is to be structured.

  5. At the most, your Notebook application will be able to have 1200 topics. This is obviously a considerable number, but it is the maximum. In general, if you have a Notebook application with this many topics, you will note that its performance will be considerably impaired.

  7. When creating your initial text file, consider how to present the information adequately, while keeping the number of topics to a reasonable number.

For example, if you are creating a Telephone Directory for an educational institution with 1000 staff members, rather than creating a Notebook with 1000 topics, group the staff by department/faculty. That is, create a Notebook with maybe 30 topics, with each topic containing all the telephone numbers for that particular department. This will not only help the performance of the application, but will group all the staff into logical units.
